Popular as far back as the 1980's the lucky frog is a keepsake a Lonely Planet traveler would pick up while exploring the tourist destinations around Oaxaca city. While seen less often forty years later the Xuana family produces the original flowered type seen here. Frogs/Ranas represent rain and the prosperity of harvests to follow later in the year. The more frogs the more rain and the more rain the more corn harvest. A timeless classic.
